Automation Success at Ignite 2016: The Worksoft Customer Conference

Leaders in automation from all industries came together recently in Dallas at the year’s top automation event - Ignite 2016: The Worksoft Customer Conference. This year’s theme was “Automation is hot” and there’s no doubt about it! Professionals in quality assurance, IT and business analytics shared their stories and successes, and came to learn about all the new automation technologies from Worksoft, as well as find new ways to maximize the value of their current investment in automation.

Applied Materials Twelve Month Update - Automation Everywhere!
As a follow-up to last year’s panel discussion, Applied Materials explained where automation has taken hold, including areas you may not have thought of! Here are a few snapshots:

• For a CRM upgrade, automation is used to test 90% of the CRM upgrade project.
• For WORKDAY, testing is scheduled on a weekly basis (Sunday) as the data gets refreshed.
• For SAP, automation is used to validate SAP after system refresh & for yearly disaster recovery system validation.
• For Taxware, scenarios are executed monthly and reports are sent to the finance team ASAP, replacing manual testing by the application support team.
• For Performance Testing, Worksoft Certify is used to support LoadRunner for CRM portal performance testing by sending 7000 emails to hit the system.
• For data creation, automated scripts are used to create data for project manual testing (material creation, inventory staging, creation of sales orders, and more).
• Worksoft Analyze is being evaluated for process discovery, in preparation for a major SAP implementation.
• A Test Support Office has been formed to drive governance and standards for how projects test.

Web and More: Non-SAP Business Process Automation at Discovery Communications
Here’s a look at how Discovery Communications implemented Worksoft tools to automate testing of non-SAP applications and processes from the ground up. The discussion included use of the Web interface with the Worksoft Extensibility Framework, Cross-browser testing, Silverlight interface, Citrix, Execution Manager, and Business Process Procedure (BPP).

TXU Energy: Now That We've Reduced Delivery Time with Automation, What's Next?
TXU Energy described their journey over the past 3 years with Worksoft Certify®. They shared how they have achieved Operational Excellence on all the metrics they measure for success. They also described their transition from a waterfall methodology to an Agile methodology for development and how that impacted testing practices. The team related their successes and lessons learned during this exercise and how they've balanced manual and automated testing to ensure full coverage for their environment. Finally, they covered how newer technologies will require increased investments in automated testing in order to maintain the quality achieved to date.

Citrix: End-to-End Validation of Complex Business Processes Across Enterprise Apps with Worksoft Certify
Citrix’s IT landscape consists of diversified technologies, including SAP, SalesForce.com, customized Web applications, and SQL Server databases, all integrated through Microsoft BizTalk interfaces. Citrix’s Order-to-Cash process typically starts with the creation of a new customer through a custom web-based application, followed by creation of a sales quote in Salesforce, processing of corresponding sales orders in SAP, incorporation of those sales orders in finance reports, and eventual creation of resulting product entitlements in SalesForce. Learn how Citrix utilizes Certify’s Web, SAP and Excel interfaces to perform end-to-end testing of our Quote-to-Entitlement business process.

The presentation covered creation of a quote and its sales exception approval in SalesForce.com, validation that the approved quote flows to SAP, creation of its sales order in SAP, blocks removal of the sales order, order fulfillment, delivery and invoicing in SAP, and validation of the resulting entitlement in SalesForce.com. Innovative use of automated database validations during different stages of this end-to-end business process were also explained.

Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Leverages Worksoft for Test Automation to Improve Product Quality and Deliver an Exceptional User Experience
WCM has many business processes that rely on enterprise applications including SAP HCM, SRM, Grant, FI and others including research-related projects like Conflict of Interest, Proposal Development and Joint Clinical trial office applications. More than 500 BI reports need to be tested and validated for each and every piece of data to ensure accuracy. Otherwise, the end result can be reputational damage and financial loss. Previously, these were tested manually for every upgrade or release. The challenge in automating these tens of thousands of test cases is to convince and gain the trust of business and functional teams regarding the effectiveness of automated testing, and the improved quality of the product.

Worksoft Certify was chosen as the Test Automation Solution for WCM to help in automating thousands of test scenarios with its easy-to-use interface and excellent SAP support. Currently 90% of regression testing is executed via Worksoft automation. Weill Cornell Medicine developed several novel solutions that employ advanced Worksoft Certify features and methods to successfully automate testing of SAP web applications like handling SAPUI5/OpenUI5 Fiori UX date controls and dynamically identifying SAP web objects at run-time.
