Few global businesses have a greater reach than Discovery Communications, the world’s #1 pay-TV programmer with nearly three billion cumulative subscribers in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide.
Discovery was looking to validate critical business processes that support vital operations, including affiliate sales, advertising sales, program scheduling and various financial processes across a wide range of Discovery businesses and brands. Discovery provides high-quality content worldwide through its television networks, led by Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery and Science, as well as U.S. joint venture network OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Discovery also controls Eurosport International, a premier sports entertainment group, including six pay-TV network brands across Europe and Asia.
Manual approaches and script-based testing were no longer adequate to keep pace with growing business and technology changes.
The Platform Choice
Discovery selected the Worksoft Certify® Suite as the platform to automate the validation of business processes across the company’s complex enterprise system landscape, noting its ability to seamlessly validate business processes that span a multitude of in-house developed applications along with commercial applications that use different interfaces. Worksoft allows these applications to interconnect with Discovery’s SAP system and provide even broader test coverage in a lights-out environment.
Additional software to be used from Worksoft’s Certify Suite will include Certify Data for automated test data management, Certify Impact for automated risk-based testing, Certify Business Process Procedure for high-quality business process documentation, and Certify Execution Manager for lights out automation of business process validation.
In today’s complex system landscape where hundreds of business processes need to be validated across multiple enterprise applications, automation helps Discovery and other global enterprises support mission critical business functions that span increasingly complex organizations.
